Te La Vie

Wild, Organic, Canadian.

A sip of tradition in every cup.

A Product of Canada

What sets Té La Vie apart starts with the leaf itself. Our teas are never built on black or green tea. Those leaves aren't native to Canada, and we believe a truly Canadian tea shouldn't start with an imported one. Instead, every blend begins with Labrador tea.

In one of the Michif dialects, “Muskego”, Labrador tea has grown wild across this land and nourished Métis families for generations. From that base, we layer in the traditional and medicinal wisdom of herbs, fruits, and berries gathered from across our beautiful country. Each ingredient is chosen not just for flavour, but for the healing properties our Elders have long understood.

It's a tea that couldn't come from anywhere else, because it couldn't come from any other land.

Whole Leaf Tea vs. Tea Dust

Not all tea is created equal, and the difference often comes down to how the leaf is processed. Whole leaf tea is made from full or lightly broken tea leaves that retain their original shape and structure. Tea dust is the fine, powdery leftovers often found in mass-market tea bags and is what remains after the leaf has been processed through high-speed cutting and sorting machines, leaving behind the smallest, most broken fragments.

Why it matters:

FLAVOUR

Whole leaves unfurl slowly as they steep, releasing their oils and flavour gradually and evenly. Tea dust, with its higher surface area, releases everything at once which often results in a flatter, more bitter, one-dimensional cup.

BENEFITS

Whole leaves retain more of their natural antioxidants, essential oils, and medicinal compounds because they haven't been broken down and exposed to oxygen and light the way dust has. The more intact the leaf, the more of its natural goodness makes it into your cup.

WASTE

Using the whole leaf reflects a more intentional, less wasteful relationship with the plant. This allows harvesting and processing in a way that honours the whole of what the land has given, rather than treating it as a commodity to be maximized for speed and yield.

CAFFEINE

Tea dust tends to release caffeine and tannins faster and in higher concentrations, which is part of why bagged tea can taste harsh or bitter if steeped even a minute too long. Whole leaf tea is more forgiving and steeps more smoothly.

QUALITY

Whole leaf tea is almost always made from higher-grade harvests, since only intact, well-selected leaves are kept whole. Tea dust is typically the byproduct of lower grades, broken leaves, stems, and processing waste.

Té La Vie

At Té La Vie, we use whole leaf tea because it's not just about taste! It's about preserving the integrity of what the land offers us, the same way our Elders taught us to gather with care and respect.
